Running is not just a sport...it's a way of life!

Of course it's hard. It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it.
Hard is what makes it great."

Welcome to the Norcross High School Cross Country Team!

Important contact information:
Coach Katherine Yost – katherine_yost@gwinnett.k12.ga.us; 404-403-7899
Coach Nathan Brooks - nathaniel_p_brooks@gwinnett.k12.ga.us; 404-583-3658

Practice:
Practice is Monday through Friday 2:30 – 4:15 p.m., rain or shine, unless otherwise cancelled.  If you are at school that day, you are expected at practice.

What to bring to practice:
 ·        Running clothes
·         Running shoes and socks
·         Water bottle
·         Watch
·         Sunscreen

Water:
A good practice starts with good hydration.  Bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated during the day.  Avoid caffeinated beverages!

Shoes:
As a general rule, running shoes should be replaced every 300 to 500 miles.  Look at your shoe sole – if the tread is getting worn, it may be time for new ones!

Meets:
Most meets are on Saturday mornings.  The varsity races are usually first, followed by JV.  Coach Brooks and Coach Yost will tell the runners the week prior to the meet whether they will be running varsity or JV.
Pre-meet tips – eat carbs the night before, have a relaxing evening, sleep well, have everything packed (meet departure times tend to be quite early Saturday morning!), prepare your mind, eat carbs 2-3 hours before your race (at runner’s discretion), be on time for the bus!

What to bring to the meets:
·         Uniform
·         Full water bottle
·         Spikes and extra socks
·         Running shoes
·         Warm Ups
·         Extra Clothes
·         Hat/gloves when it gets colder
·         NO Jewelry!  Race rules only permit runners to wear a sports watch.

Spikes:
Spikes are lightweight racing shoes with metal spikes on the sole.  They are optional but HIGHLY recommended for meets.  They can be purchased at running stores such as Fleet Feet.
